Volunteer Roles
Position Title: Volunteer for Special Events
Reports to: Development Assistant/Director of Development
Overview of the position: Help with record-keeping, fundraising campaigns, and various special events (including our annual fundraiser).
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist with communications to donors or prospective donors, including print and digital.
- Support fundraising events (set up, event-day support).
- Assist with record-keeping, filing, and other tasks as assigned.
Time commitment: Up to 10 hours per week available on an ongoing basis. Event volunteers are welcome to contribute to at least one but as many special events as they choose.
Qualifications:
*Age requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older.
*Skills/education: None.
*Experience: None.
*Training and screenings required: Correspond with a member of the Development department to learn job specifics prior to the event. There will be an on-site group orientation before each event. If the volunteer is more than a one-time volunteer, there may be other training provided by the Development Department.
Benefits to the Volunteer:
Meet people in the community and help the Center raise more money to fund programs that help individuals with communication disorders. Learn the basics of fundraising and build skills around communication and marketing.
Position Title: Vision and Hearing Screening Volunteer
Reports to: Salena Kennedy, Director of Community Services
Position overview: Helping our community service technicians with vision and hearing screenings while at schools, health fairs, and other related events.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform vision and hearing screenings as needed at events.
- Record any required information from screenings to give to the Director of Community Services
- Help with crowd control in order to make these events run smoothly.
- Assist in cleaning up supplies after a screening event is over.
Time Commitment:
Can fluctuate depending on the event’s time and date, but also how many screenings there are to be done. Typically, there are 1-2 screenings each week, which typically take 2-4 hours. These times will be negotiated with the volunteer and the Director of Community Services.
Qualifications:
Age requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age.
Skills/education: No prior education required, but strong people skills, attention to detail, and timeliness are preferred.
Experience: College students looking for experience in the field or people with experience as performing vision and hearing screenings are preferred, but not required.
Training and screening required: Orientation and on-site training from the Director of Community Services.
Benefits to the Volunteer:
Learn about hearing loss and hearing screenings, provide support to hearing technicians and help the Center work to fulfill its mission. Volunteers will also increase their organizational and communication skills.
Position Title: Volunteer for Development (Fundraising)
Reports to: Director of Development and Development Assistant
Overview of the position: Help with fundraising and efforts on an ongoing basis as needed and assigned.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Help with mailings (event save-the-dates and invitations, appeals, etc.).
- Help create decorations and assemble auction baskets.
- Support stewardship efforts to thank donors, including through recognition efforts.
- Support creative efforts as assigned – developing flyers, content for social media and newsletter, etc.
- Maintain and file records.
Time commitment: Negotiable, up to 10 hours per week.
Qualifications:
*Age requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older.
*Skills/education: Basic computer skills. Creativity and passion for fundraising and marketing preferred.
*Experience: None.
*Training and screenings required: Onboarding HIPAA training provided. Other department- and role-specific training as needed.

Assist our SLP’s by prepping therapy materials and helping with general office admin. (must meet minimum requirements)
