Hearing loss for most individuals happens gradually over a long period of time.  Family members, co-workers or friends will most likely become aware of hearing difficulties before the affected individual. This is because hearing can decrease so gradually that the person with the hearing loss may not be aware of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following are just some of the signs of hearing loss you may experience or observe in someone close to you. Only a hearing exam can determine if there is a hearing loss or not.   1. Difficulty understanding speech<\/strong>. There are situations where hearing someone speak could be hard to understand. Family gatherings and work are usually the first places one may become aware of hearing loss. Hearing loss is most noticeable in groups and in background noise.  This is because multiple speakers and noise can mask out someone you really want to hear.<\/li>
  2. Tinnitus<\/strong>. These are phantom sounds that one hears in their head and\/or ears. This is a common symptom of hearing loss.<\/li>
  3. Turning up the tv to hear<\/strong>. Television watching can be difficult when someone experiences hearing loss. Turning the tv up too loud can point towards hearing loss.<\/li>
  4. Frustration<\/strong>. The need to successfully to communicate with others is an important human trait. It is how we connect to one another and to the outside world.
